Perfectly Broken

Perfectly Broken - Prescott Lane PERFECTLY BROKEN is a captivating story that grabbed me from the first page. Peyton Mayfield lives in New Orleans. She’s a young, pretty woman, still trying to recover from things that happened in her past. Peyton doesn’t have any interest in dating and does her best to detract attention by wearing baggy clothes to hide her petite frame. Peyton owns a pie shop called Adelaide’s and that’s where she first meets Reed. Reed Langston, an architect is discontented with his life. He’s a playboy bored with his playboy lifestyle. He feels unsettled, but isn’t sure what he wants. He is a commitment-phobe who has never been in a relationship. Once Reed meets Peyton, he can’t get her out of his mind and he starts to pursue her. Peyton knows Reed has a reputation as a man slut and isn’t interested in being one of his many conquests. She continually tells Reed no, but, he is relentless in his pursuit. The slow build up to their relationship makes the story feel real.

Although Reed is a philanderer, he is endearing and vulnerable once you have a glimpse beyond his playboy façade. He is always patient, sensitive and sweet with Peyton and I loved that about him. It touched my heart the way Reed was clueless, yet always trying to please Peyton. I enjoyed Quinn, Peyton’s best friend and Quinn’s fiancé, Bret. They were good for comic relief in this story. Some of the things Quinn said to and about her boyfriend, Bret made me laugh out loud. It’s hard for me to believe this is Prescott Lane’s second book, because she is such a talented writer. This story has all the right elements for a perfect book, strong dialogue, realistic characters, a little angst to make the story compelling, but not too much and interesting secondary characters. I didn’t want this story to end!
